I am planning to do some soul searching in New Mexico and experiment with more extreme off the grid business development projects. On my adventure through New Mexico, I will be trading work for lodging, land and other New Mexico treasures along the way. The majority of our clients are on the Joomla platform. Over the past year Joomla has been churning away at upgrades. Leaving the Joomla community wondering how hard it will be to update their joomla platforms.

It appears Joomla has plans for a major upgrade every 6 months. Upgrading from Joomla 1.5 to the newer versions requires template changes and other changes. Not all of the extensions have been upgraded yet either. So Joomla 1.5 is still the best choice to deploy new websites if you want all of the bells and whistles to work. But one day, it will be time to upgrade from Joomla 1.5 to one of the newer versions. It is best to allow the new versions some time on the market before upgrading to make sure it is stable and that the extensions and template you want to use will work.

The good news is... if you wait long enough... Joomla is saying when 1.8 comes out, there will be a 1 click upgrade from previous Joomla versions (1.5, 1.6, 1.7). Who knows how well this feature will work, but it's worth waiting to find out!

When hired to make changes to the existing website we found out that the site was hosted using FrontPage Extensions. Since front page was discontinued in 2006 and the website could not be changed without it, we offered to rebuild the website using Joomla so that the site is easier to update from any computer. As well as use this as an opportunity to organize the content. Here is a snapshot of the original design. 

First Concept Re-Design

The client provided us with a new logo they wanted to update the site with. In this first concept we thought it would be cool to tie the logo into the header. We thought the guy on the island was a cool way to show the owner and add some flare.

Second Concept Re-Design

We also used a tuna fish supplied by the client. 

Third Concept Re-Design

This was the final design concept approved by the client. Not a bad make over!

This was a real fun site to re-design. There was a lot of content to work with and it was tough not letting the imagination go wild during this project.
